The Band - Night at the Palladium - 09-18-1976

The Band
Night At the Palladium: Complete Live at the New York Palladium 1976
FM Broadcast
So Many Roads

The Band was in the process of winding down their touring career in the Fall of 1976.  This show from New York's Palladium was part of the mammoth farewell tour that was to end with the concert at San Francisco's Winterland Auditorium, November 25, 1976 that was to become The Last Waltz (Warner Brothers, 1978).  Replete with complete horn section, The Band blazes through their dense and deep catalog: "Ophelia," "King Harvest," and "This Wheel's on Fire" are all given in corrosive sacrifice.  This performance may be more inspired than Rock of Ages (Capitol, 1972),   with Levon Helm more committed than on The Last Waltz, though this show was not as complete.  This is The Band under the pressure of winding things up...and they react superbly.
